Vi records max download speed in 5g pune trails

Mumbai, May 13, 2022: Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) today announced that they have achieved a technology milestone in ongoing 5G trials by demonstrating a peak download speed of 5.92 Gbps. Vi’s new speed record was achieved on a single test device during its 5G trials in Pune, Maharashtra, conducted on a combination of mid-band and high-band (mmWave) 5G test spectrum using Ericsson Massive MIMO radios, Ericsson cloud native dual mode 5G core for autonomous architecture and NR-DC (New Radio-Dual Connectivity) software.

With 5G Standalone NR-DC software, Vi can deliver latency-sensitive, high-performance applications such as AR/VR and 8K video streaming as well as innovative new use cases for consumers and businesses once it is deploying 5G on its commercial network.

Earlier during its 5G trials and use case presentation in Pune, Vi had demonstrated speeds in excess of 4 Gbps. The new speed record of 5.92 Gbps was achieved using government-allocated 5G spectrum for trials.

Commenting on the achievement, Jagbir Singh, Chief Technology Officer at Vi said, “The trial shows how Vi is constantly testing and preparing its network for new 5G-based applications that will rely on low latency, reliability and the high speeds of 5G. Given growing consumer demand for immersive media and video streaming services, the 5G speeds we have demonstrated will help prepare us for mobile broadband speeds and increased network capacity demands from customers as we we are preparing for “5G for a better future” in India. .”

Vi’s focus on harnessing new technologies and partnerships for a better future for its users has led the company to showcase a wide range of 5G use cases during 5G trials in Pune and Gandhinagar, to make businesses and citizens smarter.

Amarjeet Singh, Vice President and Head of Vi Client Unit at Ericsson, said, “Achieving this technology milestone of 5.92 Gbps download speed by leveraging Ericsson’s 5G Standalone NR-DC software and Cloud-native dual-mode 5G core represents an important step in India’s evolution to standalone 5G with mmWave. Based on our global deployment of 5G across 121 active networks, we are confident that we can help our customers like Vi seamlessly scale their network to 5G.

5G is expected to account for 39% of all mobile subscriptions in India by 2027 according to Ericsson Mobility Report, November 2021 edition. 5G is on track to become the dominant mobile subscription access technology globally by 2027 By then, 5G is expected to account for around 50% of all mobile subscriptions globally, covering 75% of the world’s population and carrying 62% of the world’s population. smartphone traffic.
