Arm to reduce IoT device development time
British chip technology company Arm is launching tools to help cut development time for Internet of Things (IoT) connected devices by around 40%, Reuters reported on Monday (October 18th).
Arm’s technology involves providing the underlying blueprints to chipmakers to enable them to develop physical chips, according to the report.
The development of computing devices has long involved chips and hardware completed first and then prototypes passed down for software developers to write code, the report says. The technology released by Arm hopes to allow manufacturers of IoT devices, including connected traffic control lights and smart home devices, to develop their chips and code simultaneously, which is expected to cut the typical lead time by two years. manufacture of a device.
Arm plans to use the new system to send blueprints to chipmakers, as well as a “virtual” version to cloud companies like Amazon Web Services, according to the report. The current system is less efficient, with tests of devices that “software developers use to refine their code,” the report said.
With the new system, Amazon, for example, plans to test the activation word for âAlexaâ on connected devices made by third-party developers.
